The new Linkin Park album feels like a bittersweet journey. It’s clear the band is trying to honor their roots while moving into a new chapter, and while no one will ever replace Chester’s raw energy and emotion, there are moments here that hit hard. Some tracks carry that classic LP vibe, while others take risks that may or may not land, depending on your taste.
It’s an emotional listen, especially for longtime fans, but worth checking out to see how the band is evolving.
Alright, let’s talk about From Zero, the first Linkin Park album without Chester on vocals. When they announced Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara as the new singer, I think we all were a little shocked. It’s a bold move, right? But, let me tell you, after giving this album a few spins, I’m genuinely pleased to say that From Zero is a fantastic addition to the Linkin Park legacy.
This album feels like a perfect balance of heavy and melodic, where every song stands out on its own. Emily’s versatility is unreal—she crushes the raspy, raw vocals on tracks like “Casualty” and “Heavy is the Crown,” but then dials it back beautifully on softer songs like “Over Each Other” and “Overflow.” And while it’s one of their shortest albums, at just about 30 minutes, it doesn’t feel incomplete at all. It’s concise, packed, and purposeful.
The opener, “The Emptiness Machine,” hits you right out of the gate with a killer line: “I only wanted to be part of something.” It’s the perfect introduction to Emily and Mike’s dynamic vocals, and you just know you’re in for something special. Then there’s “Casualty”—holy hell, what a banger. Emily screaming, “I won’t be your casualty!” over a riff that gives serious Tool vibes, can you say 46x and 2? It's pure fire. And “Two Faced”? It’s classic LP to the core, with Mike spitting verses and Emily belting the chorus. It felt like it could’ve slipped right onto Meteora with that gritty intro that reminds me of “Hit the Floor.”
One standout for me is “Stained.” It’s a slow burn, building and stopping with these rhythmic punches until it all comes together, flowing like a river. Emily’s voice just cuts through it all so perfectly. It’s one of those tracks that makes you stop and feel something.
And then there’s “I Gave You Everything I Had”—absolutely insane. Emily’s raw scream of “I gave you everything I had!” hits like a punch to the gut, and when she follows it with “I’m not the enemy you make me out to be,” it’s pure, unfiltered emotion. It’s intense, powerful, and honestly, cathartic. This track isn’t just music—it’s a full-on experience. Sure, navigating this new era of Linkin Park might feel like a bumpy ride at times, but trust me, hang in there. We’re all in this together, and this band is taking us on one hell of a journey.
Look, nothing they release will ever immediately hit the same level as the classics with Chester—we all know that. But From Zero is a solid first step into this new chapter. Mike’s rap flow is still on point, Emily’s aggression brings the edge that’s needed, and Brad and Joe shine like they always do. It feels like Linkin Park is still very much alive, even as they evolve.

Make no mistake, Kiko Loureiro’s latest album, Theory Of Mind, is a scorcher that ignites the senses with its electrifying riffs and profound thematic depth, leaving listeners breathless.
This release delves deep into the intersection of psychology, personal experiences, and technology, inviting listeners on a transformative journey that mirrors the complexities of human connection.
From the moment the album opens with "Borderliner" and "Out Of Nothing", it becomes clear that Loureiro is not just showcasing his technical prowess; he is weaving a narrative that resonates on multiple levels. Each track reflects a journey of connection, evolving from initial uncertainty to deeper complexity.
The album's conceptual richness is particularly striking as it grapples with contemporary issues surrounding artificial intelligence. As the press release notes, recent studies indicate that AI systems have, in some cases, outperformed humans in Theory of Mind tests. Loureiro thoughtfully engages with these implications, raising vital questions about consciousness, empathy, and the essence of being human. This exploration adds a layer of depth that elevates the music from a mere guitar virtuoso album to a reflective experience that challenges listeners to contemplate their own perceptions of connection.
Musically, Theory Of The Mind is a tour de force. Loureiro's guitar work is both breathtakingly intricate and emotionally resonant, with each solo echoing the complexity of the themes at play. The album traverses various genres, masterfully blending progressive metal with elements of jazz and classical influences such as on "The Other Side Of Fear" and "Mind Rise". Throughout the album each song creates a rich tapestry of sound that captivates at every turn. Tracks like "Talking Dreams" and "Finitude" stand out not only for their technical brilliance but for their ability to evoke an emotional response that lingers long after the final notes fade.
The production quality of Theory Of The Mind is exceptional, allowing every nuance and detail to be experienced. The arrangements are meticulously crafted, guiding the listener through a cohesive journey that feels both expansive and intimate. Loureiro's ability to create a soundscape that mirrors the complexities of human thought and emotion is nothing short of masterful.
In conclusion, Theory Of The Mind is an extraordinary album that not only showcases Kiko Loureiro’s remarkable talent but also invites us to reflect on the nature of connection in an increasingly digital world. It challenges our assumptions about empathy and consciousness, encouraging a deeper understanding of what it means to be human. This album is a must-listen for anyone who seeks to explore the profound interplay between music, thought, and technology. Kiko Loureiro has truly crafted a masterpiece that will resonate and be enjoyed by me for years to come.

Long gone are the sleazy, dirty punk riffs that made us fall in love with the Crue, and in their place is a more polished glitter sound to their music. It is appropriate for a band that has consistently reinvented itself throughout the years. The EP opens with "Cancelled," showcasing a nice heavy groove. Is that a cowbell I hear in the background mix, Tommy? You can't deny the groove, punctuated by a very reminiscent Vince Neil growl that pulls you into a chugging wall of sound. John 5 pays homage to the great Mick Mars with some stellar opening notes, setting the stage for a catchy chorus that lingers in your mind as Vince asks, "Will you love me when I fall?" The lyrics resonate with the current climate, with Motley surprising us by writing a song titled "Cancelled," the "King of Cancellation." They sum it up perfectly: EVERYBODY WAKE UP WAKE UP... EVERYBODY SHUT UP SHUT UP, BANG YOUR HEAD AGAINST THE MOTHER FUCKING WALL! This track sizzles, and more importantly, this is the best we've heard from Mr. Neil in quite some time.
The momentum continues with track #2, "Dogs of War." This scorcher starts with a thump and grind before quieting down to let Vince set the stage for a powerful message: "Don't let them take the crown, don't let those bastards get you down." The band sounds energetic and alive, although the production from Bob Rock can feel a bit too compressed and polished. However, this song grows on you with each listen. John 5 delivers a ripping solo toward the end, and the Crue propels you into the final groove of the track... LET'S GO!
The EP closes with a cover of the Beastie Boys' "Fight for Your Right." Mixed reviews are expected, but I was pleasantly surprised by the energy and chaos the Motley boys inject into this classic. They nail it with their own flair, reminding us "it's the MOTLEY BOYZ!"
Overall, this EP marks another chapter in the band’s ever-evolving legacy. While it may stray from the raw sound of their earlier days, it captures the essence of what made us love Motley Crue in the first place—a relentless spirit, infectious energy, and a touch of rebellion. The Crue is back, and they’re ready to remind us why we fell in love with rock 'n' roll.

For those who have been eagerly anticipating new music from thrash legend Kerry King, you will not be disappointed with From Hell I Rise. If you love Slayer, you’ll definitely want to pick up his first solo effort. From start to finish, Kerry and the rest of the band deliver hard and heavy thrash. It’s the record we all wanted, and it’s the record we needed.
Other than fellow Slayer member Paul Bostaph, the public didn’t know who would complete Kerry’s solo band. However, it’s no surprise that the chemistry between Bostaph and King shines on this album, just as it did on their past Slayer releases. Although the choice of Mark Osegueda (Death Angel, Metal Allegiance) as singer came as a surprise to the metal community, he delivers each song with malice and conviction, epitomizing a brutal onslaught. His performance fits perfectly with every track, proving he’s the right frontman for Kerry’s band. Guitarist Phil Demmel (Vio-lence, Category 7) provides melodic leads that complement Kerry’s chaotic soloing style.
From the opening instrumental “Diablo” to the closing title track, Kerry and the band bring the thrash aggression that I feel has been missing in recent years. Standout tracks include “Toxic,” which opens with a killer riff you could have on repeat for days; “Where I Reign,” which immediately shows the world that Kerry still has the chops and aggression, even nine years after Repentless; and the title track, “From Hell I Rise,” which opens with a fast riff and features a hellish harmony lead from King and Demmel.
If I had any critiques, I’d say I wish Mark had more opportunities to showcase his versatility as a vocalist. He’s capable of pulling off anything from Dio to Tom Araya (as evidenced on this album), and it would have been great to hear that range. I also would have liked more prominent bass from Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah). Overall, this is a great release and easily one of the top albums of 2024. I’m already looking forward to hearing more music from Kerry King.

Sebastian Bach’s Child Within the Man is nothing short of exceptional—a must-listen that you shouldn’t overlook. This album stands out as one of the best of the year, brilliantly capturing the essence of what makes Bach a rock icon.
Following in the footsteps of his legendary singles like "Temptation," "All My Friends Are Dead," and "Kicking & Screaming," Bach delivers a powerful collection of tracks that blend hard-hitting rock with deeply personal themes. Standouts like "What Do I Got To Lose", "Freedom", and "Everybody Bleeds" showcase his soaring vocals and lyrical depth, reaffirming his mastery in storytelling.
The collaboration with the ultimate guitarist Steve Stevens elevates the entire album; Stevens’ virtuosity is on full display, with electrifying solos (rayguns included) and intricate riffs that add a fresh layer to Baz's classic sound.
In short, Child Within the Man is a triumphant return for Bach, reflecting his growth while staying true to his rock roots. Don’t miss out on this incredible album—it’s a powerful testament to his enduring legacy in rock music. BACH & ROLL! !
